The exhibition 28 Chinese at the Rubell Family Collection in Miami, Florida was the culmination of six research trips the Rubell family made between 2001 and 2012. The exhibition reflects their experiences and exchanges with artists they met there, and while it doesn't endeavor to quantify or summarize art in China it exposes a wide swath of the work being made there. Though it is a personal account, it ultimately encompasses multiple generations of artist working through myriad themes offering an adequate survey of the young Chinese contemporary art world. The Rubells visited over one-hundred studios throughtout China, and here they exhibited twenty-eight of the artists they chose to buy work from. This exhibition and particualrly the accompanying catalog reflect this experience, offering insight to their collecting process and studio visitations.

The catalog is fully bilingual (English and Chinese) and includes comprehensive artist biographies as well as wiriting from the artists themselves--for the majority of whom this is their first exhibition in North America.
